About the Estate Owners

Estate owner Adam Overton is a born-and-raised American and a professional documentary filmmaker. His wife, Rachel Samuel, is Ethiopian and works as a photographer. In 2007, the couple was commissioned to travel to Ethiopia to film a documentary about coffee. As the project progressed, their deepening connection with the land and people of Ethiopia gradually gave rise to a dream of building their own coffee estate.

This dream took a pivotal turn when they met William Boot. From the selection of the estate’s location to the choice of coffee varieties and processing methods, William played a crucial role in shaping Gesha Village. To this day, he continues to lead annual visits to the estate and stays on-site to oversee post-harvest processing.

At Gesha Village Estate, three coffee varieties are cultivated. The first is Gori Gesha, collected from the wild Gori Forest, accounting for 43.7% of the planted area. The second variety originates from the Illubabor Forest and represents approximately 20% of the estate. The third is the well-known Gesha 1931, a variety that most closely resembles the Geisha currently grown in Panama in terms of plant morphology and flavor profile, accounting for approximately 37.3% of the estate’s total planting area.

Beginning with the 2018 harvest, Gesha Village Estate implemented a new internal grading system, dividing all lots into four internal quality tiers in order to further enhance quality control and consistency.

Grower’s Reserve (紅標)
