Nestled in the renowned Guji coffee-growing region of southern Ethiopia, Buku Abel lies within the Hambela area of the Oromia region. Known for its high-altitude growing conditions and generations of smallholder coffee farming, this origin offers a fascinating expression of Ethiopia’s specialty coffee heritage.

At elevations reaching approximately 2,100–2,350 metres above sea level in some growing areas, the cool highland environment encourages slow cherry maturation, creating favorable conditions for the development of sweetness and flavor complexity.

Smallholder Care, Naturally Processed

Coffee in Buku Abel is primarily cultivated by local smallholder farmers. Carefully selected ripe cherries are delivered to local processing stations, where they undergo natural processing, also known as the dry process.

The cherries are spread across raised African drying beds and turned regularly to promote even drying. This careful approach helps preserve the coffee’s distinctive character while allowing its natural fruitiness and sweetness to develop.
